About T.H.R.I.L.

Therapeutic Horse Riding in Lindsay – T.H.R.I.L.

Our Program

Since 2014, T.H.R.I.L has been providing therapy riding lessons to children, youth and adults with physical, emotional and intellectual challenges. Currently at T.H.R.I.L over 30 riders a week, from ages 4 to 60 experience the joy and thrill of being on a trained therapy horse. Some of the benefits of therapeutic riding are an improvement in physical health, relaxation of tight muscles, an increase in balance, building of muscle strength, mobilization of trunk and pelvis, sharpening of hand-eye coordination, improvement in social skills, and a gain of sense of accomplishment and self-esteem as the rider experiences a freedom which has often never been felt before.

We have also opened our doors for visits from community programs, like Community Care Adult Day Program and Kawartha Adult Education. T.H.R.I.L incorporated in 2018 and became a registered charity in 2019.

Riders must have a diagnosed disability and we have a wide range of challenges in our program – adhd, social anxiety, learning disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders – to persons born with visual impairment, cerebral palsy, seizure disorders, Down syndrome and other global developmental delays. As well T.H.R.I.L assists riders with acquired disabilities due to illness or accidents such as stroke, cancer, paralysis, paraplegia and brain injuries.

We operate 4 days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, from April to November, with breaks in between our spring, summer and fall programs.

Our Volunteers

Our volunteers are an essential piece in providing this amazing joyful and successful program. It can sometimes take up to four volunteers to enable one person to ride. The benefits and improvements to the riders that are witnessed by the volunteers, create an incredible feeling of success and well-being for all. The smiles on our riders’ faces and the repeated stories of measurable improvement in their daily lives because of their weekly riding lesson are the fuel for our passion. We have a base of about 20 volunteers that assist and without them we could not provide the services we offer.  We need more!

Our Riders

T.H.R.I.L.’s aim is to provide quality, CanTRA approved, certified, insured, therapy horseback riding program at minimal cost to the participants, with the assistance of donations, discounts from local businesses and volunteers from the community.  We are proud of our small, quality program and are a member centre with CanTRA, the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association and have certified CanTRA instructors working with our amazing volunteers to provide, safe, fun and effective therapy on the back of a horse!

Our Sponsors

Without our sponsors, we would not be able to keep our rider fees as low as we have. Our program is dependent on financial help from the community.  We need your help to continue this valuable program.  Huge thanks to our current and future sponsors.
